Home remedies for Hypothyroidism 

Triphala A very common and popular herbal combination in Ayurveda which is well known by people also. This is best to take out toxins from body via opening channels. Low digestive fire or agnimandya is involved in the pathogenesis of hypothyroidism so including triphala as a home remedy can help you to deal with hypothyroidism.

How to take – it is available in powder form so one can take 1 teaspoon of it twice daily, morning and at bed time with luke-warm water.

Coriander seeds Another home cure that can help thyroid gland to function properly.

How to use – Boil half to one teaspoon of coriander seed sin 2 cups of water until 1 cup remains. Filter and drink when its luke warm. Also one can take half teaspoon of powder with water daily two times.

Walnuts – Yummy and crunchy walnuts can work as a medicine also. Do you know that? Yes, they are packed with manganese that help body to absorb sufficient iodine as lack of iodine is also one among other causes of hypothyroidism.

How to take – Soak 1 or 2 walnuts in water overnight. Take them in next day morning (effective way to take) or one can try them as a munching snack.

Jeera/cumin, Dhaniya/coriander, Methi/fenugreek and Saunf/fennel – Wonderful hypothyroid home remedy which can be taken on daily basis for many side benefits also. This helps to enhance digestive fire and entire metabolism.

How to use – Take half teaspoon of each and boil in 300 ml of water until 60 to 70 ml remains. You can filter and drink when it is luke warm.

Another way is to store all of them in equal quantity in powder form (preferably after roasting). Take half to one teaspoon of it two to three times with plain or luke warm water for best results.

Also use them in your boiled rice and making curries. These are very good digestive herbs and can correct metabolism which is a root cause of many health issues.

Ginger – A very good source of magnesium, zinc, potassium and packed with anti-inflammatory properties make ginger an efficient thyroid stimulating herb. 

How to take – Boil grated half teaspoon in 2 cups of water until 1 cup remains. Filter and take.

Also use its thin slices in your salad with meal.

Stay hydrated/drink plenty of liquids – Prefer plenty of water, fresh fruit juices and healthy soups. Coconut water is an excellent one. Liquids help to remove toxins from body and stimulate gland functions.

Hypothyroidism home remedies can help you to nourish and revitalize your thyroid gland but at the same time one should seek guidance of an Ayurveda expert for proper management.
