Sesame seeds are probably the oldest of all cultivated seeds crops. Sesame is a variable annual herb, 1 to 2 meter tall. It is covered with glandular hair. It has got somewhat pungent smell. Sesame seeds are small, smooth, white/black/red in color.
Sesame seeds are excellent source of many essential minerals like calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, selenium, magnesium and copper. Also these are packed with mono-unsaturated fatty acids, oleic acids, folic acids and vitamin B complex.
There are three varieties of sesame seeds, black, white and red. Black seeds are known for its best quality oil and used for medicinal purpose. Black seeds are known to possess many essential nutrients. White are excellent source of calcium. Red are very rich in iron and known to enhance red blood cells.
Health Benefits of Sesame Seeds
Black and red sesame seeds are great source of iron. These are well advised to take in anemia and blood loss.
An emulsion of the seeds can be prepared by grinding and straining them in water for some hours. Mix this emulsion with one cup of milk and you can add jaggery (gud). This is proved and result giving home remedy in anemia.
High cholesterol and high blood pressure are commonest problems among people these days which are causative factors for many heart ailments. Sesame seeds (Black) contain phytosterol which help to clear channels and blocks cholesterol production. Therefore issues like hypertension and high cholesterol can be kept at bay if one make use of sesame seeds on regular basis.
You can have some roasted seeds either as it is or in powder form. Take with honey or plain water.

Piles and Fistula
As we know sesame seeds are rich in iron so can be beneficial in bleeding piles or in anal fistula even. It can be given on regular basis.
Make paste of seeds with some water and take it with butter in case of bleeding piles. This is effective home remedy for piles.
Sesame oil is best for hair and scalp problems. Massage 2 to 3 times per week for better results. Sesame root and leaves are also used to make decoction which is very beneficial in dandruff, hair fall and premature graying of hair.
Sesame oil can be used externally in many skin diseases. A poultice of sesame seeds is applied externally over burns, ulcers, scald etc. Regular use shows wonderful results.
This also helps you to fight with wrinkles, scars and blemishes. Also provides young and charming skin.
Mental Stress and Anxiety
Sesame seeds can be advised in mental stress and anxiety. These are packed with stress relieving minerals like magnesium and vitamins like thiamin which help to produce serotonin and thus reduce pain and inflammation. Also help you to feel relax and induce good sleep.
You can make paste of seeds with water to apply over forehead. Also have some roasted seeds with lukewarm water for better results.
Along with these Health Benefits of Sesame Seeds, there are many other uses also. Sesame oil is a substitute for olive oil and can be used for cooking. This is used for salad dressing as well. Fried or roasted seeds can be used for chutneys, dishes and in sweets too.
